Steak by the river at Jackson & Rye

I love discovering London restaurants. It is in fact my second favourite thing to do apart from traveling and discovering restaurants abroad. Last week I went to visit Jackson & Rye in Richmond, yes Richmond. But as soon as I saw the stunning sunset views of the Thames I knew the travel down south was worth it.

We were greeted and sat down by the bar to try some American Whisky – Oh my was I excited. Whisky is most definitely my favourite alcoholic beverage these days, and when lovely Hubert suggested for me to try the best Whisky ever, which it was, it was sure we had come to the right place!

We learned a lot about Whisky which soon enough was accompanied by delicious nibbles. Here, I do have to mention the Corn Dogs – I mean Corn Dogs! One of those mysterious foods everybody in the world seems to love and I just never tried. They were fabulous and the perfect starter to a wonderful meal. There was a big smile on my face.

Time to get to the table and choose some steak! And it was probably the most beautiful table in the restaurant. The view…the view was romantic and a very relaxed and warm atmosphere overall made me feel incredibly welcome.

I was about to start studying the menu when our waiter Hubert pretty much chose everything for us 😉 risky you say? Clever I say! As soon as my cocktail arrived, even before the starter, I knew that letting Hubert decide was a wise choice. It was a fresh and light Gin cocktail which tasted like spring.

He chose an 18 hour smoked brisket for me and a fillet steak for my boyfriend. As an inexperienced steak eater I went for the safe option and 100% did not regret my, I mean Hubert’s choice. For starters we went for crispy prawns and truffled mac ‘n’ cheese! Wowzers! The mac ‘n’ cheese might have changed my life a little.

Our steaks arrived and what can I say … my boyfriend’s fillet steak was so soft it almost melted in my mouth! I was genuinely surprised and that one bite I tried really changed my opinion on steak; it might in fact be the best choice on any menu ever. My 18 hour smoked brisket was a dream. It tasted like summer bbq with all your friends and family, and if I think about the peppercorn sauce now still, all I want is to have just one more bite 😉

Accompanied by top notch wine I sat back relaxed, and had an amazing dinner at Jackson & Rye. The service was excellent, very attentive and knowledgeable and not to forget a big thank you to Hubert who made this night extra special.

Come here in the summer, sit outside and order a cocktail and a steak. Bring a date or your boyfriend/girlfriend and they will be very impressed. Let me know if you guys go and what you chose. I loved it!

Oh, and of course we had desert, too … I mean there is always room for desert, right?
